About Us
EB Research Institute GmbH is a non-profit biotechnology institute based in Salzburg, Austria. It is a joint venture between DEBRA Austria and Salzburg University Hospital.
Our institute focuses on translational research and development with the goal of improving the lives of patients suffering from Epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a rare genetic skin disease also known as “butterfly disease”. Through innovative scientific approaches, we aim to accelerate the development of effective therapies and improve clinical outcomes for affected individuals.
About the Role
We are looking for a Data Scientist with strong expertise in the analysis and interpretation of omics datasets and a solid background in statistics, programming, and molecular biology. In this role, you will contribute to the generation, integration, and interpretation of various omics datasets, including single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing data, to accelerate target identification, validation, and biomarker discovery. Your work will support our preclinical programs as they progress toward clinical development.
Key Responsibilities
• Build and manage omics datasets (particularly bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing data) to support hypothesis generation and mechanistic insights
• Perform target discovery and biomarker identification analyses using computational and statistical approaches
• Collaborate closely with wet-lab scientists and provide bioinformatics insights to guide research decisions
• Design and implement standardized end-to-end computational pipelines for multi-omics data analysis, including raw data processing, quality control, analysis, and
development of visualization tools (e.g., Shiny applications)
• Ensure data quality, reproducibility, and clear documentation across datasets and analysis workflows
• Stay up to date with emerging bioinformatics and data science technologies relevant to translational research
Your Profile
• Master’s degree or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or a related field
• Proven experience handling large-scale biological datasets, especially scRNA-seq data
• Experience applying machine learning techniques to identify biomarkers and interpret complex multi-omics data
• Solid understanding of molecular biology and translational research
• Strong programming skills in R and Python and familiarity with bioinformatics tools (e.g., Seurat)
• Experience with data visualization and communicating results to non-computational audiences
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines with experimental scientists
• Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
• Fluency in German and English
Why Join Us?
• Opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge biomedical research
• Work with real impact on patients' lives
• Collaborative and innovative research environment
• Opportunities for professional development
• Competitive compensation package
